In short, Massachusetts is very fun to play. Massachusetts has a sister ship, Alabama which is also in game, and both belong to the South Dakota Class, the predecessor class to the Iowa-Class while succeeding the Colorado and North Carolina classes. Massachusetts’ traits are focused around her impressive Secondary Battery consisting of 20-5”/38, resilient armor scheme, and adaptable play-style, and AA mounts packed into any and every available space not already packed with larger guns. Massachusetts is a South Dakota Class Battleship and has the conventional centerline A-B-X turret layout of 9- 16”/45 Mk 6 guns with A-B turrets super-firing forward. She features a* MODERATE skill floor with an EXTREME skill ceiling. In game, Massachusetts is characterized as being an intense secondary brawling battleship. I acquired this ship along with Yahagi by completing her campaign. Massachusetts was first available by campaign, and has returned for global XP at a cost of 750k.

The book is very well written and makes an excellent reference guide. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in US Navy battleships. There are also several color drawings and some excellent line drawings. There are photos of the keel laying, launch, commissioning, shakedown cruise, in action, mothballed, and then as a museum. The photo documentation in this book should be commended. After the war, Alabama was mothballed until 1964 when she was moved to her present home in Mobile Bay as a museum.ĭavid Doyle does an excellent job covering this vessel. Even though the Alabama took part in some of the most famous battles of the Pacific during the war, she only lost five crewman and none to enemy action. The build took over two years until commissioning. The USS Alabama is a South Dakota-class battleship, and construction was begun in February, 1940.
